MycoWorks stock

Also searched as: mycoworks stock

MycoWorks, the company that makes mycelium-based leather alternatives, is private and has no stock ticker. SEC EDGAR lists MycoWorks Inc (CIK 1894047) with only Form D filings, notices of private fundraising, not registered public shares.

MycoWorks, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, makes a leather alternative from mycelium (the root structure of fungi). Private companies like it raise money from venture investors; ordinary investors usually can only buy in if the company later lists through an IPO or a SPAC merger, both of which would require an SEC registration filing first.

How to check whether MycoWorks shares can be bought: a company whose shares trade publicly files reports with the SEC. Search EDGAR by company name. A registration statement (Form S-1, or F-1 for foreign issuers) appears before an IPO, and a Form D shows a private exempt offering. If neither appears, there are no SEC-registered shares to look up.

For a ticker lookup, the SEC says its EDGAR company search lets you “Find registration statements, periodic reports, and other forms by typing the name or ticker symbol of a company” (SEC: Search filings, public domain). If neither the ticker nor the name returns a result, the company does not file reports with the SEC.

The filings themselves, checked this session: MycoWorks, Inc. has four Form D notices on EDGAR, dated Nov 16, 2021 (two), April 4, 2022 and June 16, 2023, and nothing else. A Form D tells the SEC that a company sold securities in a private offering exempt from registration, usually only to accredited investors, so it is not a public listing. No 10-K, 10-Q, S-1 or 8-K has been filed. If MycoWorks ever plans an IPO, a registration statement will appear on its filing page first (MycoWorks filing index on SEC EDGAR).

A Form D is a notice of a private sale under the SEC's Regulation D exemptions. It is not a registration, so the shares are not listed on any exchange (SEC EDGAR).

NYSE ticker lookup

This search was a random string after "nyse" and matches no listed company. To find a NYSE ticker, search the company name on the exchange site or on SEC EDGAR full-text search. The largest US stocks on this page today:

Why random strings show up: many sites build pages from search boxes or autocomplete, so a mistyped or pasted string can become a URL. Real NYSE tickers are one to four letters (sometimes with a class suffix such as .A or .B), so a 30-character string can never be a listed symbol. Nasdaq tickers can have up to five letters.

The SEC's company search lets you type a name and see the ticker, CIK number and all filings: SEC EDGAR full-text search.

If you were looking for a specific company and landed here, try searching its full legal name; private companies, like MycoWorks above, won't have any ticker at all.

Exchange listings change through IPOs, mergers and delistings, so always confirm a ticker against current filings.

A practical way to check a ticker is the SEC's own ticker list, which matches every exchange symbol it tracks to a company name and CIK number. Type the name or ticker into EDGAR's company search: if the company files reports, its filing page opens with the ticker and exchange shown at the top. Searching this string returns nothing, confirming it is not a security. Beware of sites that show a price for any string you type; a real listed company always has a filing history (SEC: Search filings).

Some background makes the lookup easier. Every SEC filer has a Central Index Key, or CIK, a number of up to ten digits that stays the same even if the company changes its name or ticker. The SEC publishes a free file that maps tickers to CIKs, which is what EDGAR's company search uses. Regular NYSE trading runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday to Friday, except exchange holidays. A company that leaves the exchange files a Form 25 to delist, which also shows on EDGAR. So a ticker that seems to have vanished can usually be traced to a delisting, a merger or a name change (SEC: search filings).
