Why can’t I link Lloyds to my Zopa Cash ISA?
Lloyds is currently on Zopa's supported linked-bank list, so a failed connection does not mean Lloyds is unsupported. Check that the account is eligible, retry the connection, and use the permitted manual route. Use the ISA transfer process for existing ISA money.

Try the Zopa connection again and check the linked-account eligibility; Lloyds is currently listed as a supported bank, and an ISA transfer should be initiated inside the ISA transfer process rather than by withdrawing the old ISA yourself.

Lloyds is currently on Zopa's supported list
Zopa's current help page lists Lloyds among the banks from which customers can make payments after linking the account. So a message saying the connection failed is not, by itself, evidence that Lloyds is unsupported.
Open-banking connections can fail for reasons such as authentication, a temporary bank-side problem, an account type that cannot be connected, or a stale authorisation. The fastest way to diagnose the problem is to read the exact message shown in the app and then retry using the current Zopa flow.
How to retry the link
Use Zopa's in-app linking process rather than entering bank credentials anywhere else. Zopa says the data shared through open banking can include balances and transaction history, so you should understand what you are authorising before confirming the connection.
If the connection fails, close the session and start again. Check that you can sign in to Lloyds normally and that any security approval requested by Lloyds is completed. Avoid repeatedly approving an old or unexpected connection request from a message or link sent by someone else.
A manual transfer can be an alternative
Zopa says customers can fund a Cash ISA by manual bank transfer once the bank account used to pay in has been verified. The Cash ISA has its own sort code and account number for this purpose. Zopa also says it can accept Faster Payments and BACS, but not CHAPS for the Cash ISA funding route.
This is different from an ISA transfer. If the money is already inside another ISA and you want to preserve its tax wrapper, do not withdraw it to your ordinary bank account simply to move it. Use the ISA transfer instruction with the new provider.
How an ISA transfer to Zopa works
Zopa currently allows customers to transfer existing ISAs into its Cash ISA using the app. It says the minimum transfer-in amount is £500 and the transfer can take up to 15 business days for the route it describes. GOV.UK also says cash ISA-to-cash ISA transfers should take no longer than 15 working days under the normal timetable.
The transfer does not use up a fresh ISA subscription simply because money moved from one ISA provider to another. The key is to use the provider's transfer process and provide the correct ISA information.
The annual ISA allowance is separate
For the current tax year, the overall ISA subscription limit is £20,000. A transfer of an existing ISA does not become a new subscription just because you changed provider, but new money paid into the ISA is still subject to the normal annual rules.
Also watch the distinction between withdrawing money and making a formal transfer. GOV.UK warns that if you withdraw ISA money instead of using the transfer process, you may not be able to reinvest that part of the tax-free allowance in the same way.
Fixed-term pots can behave differently
If an existing ISA is fixed-term, there may be an early-exit cost or interest penalty. Zopa says its own fixed-term ISA pots can involve an interest charge if broken early, and providers can impose their own terms. Check the outgoing provider's conditions before initiating a transfer.
Common causes of failed ISA links
- The bank connection was authorised against the wrong account.
- The open-banking session timed out.
- The bank needs you to complete an extra security step.
- The account type is not supported for the selected transaction.
- The provider's systems are temporarily unavailable.
- You are trying to move an existing ISA by ordinary bank transfer instead of an ISA transfer.
If a technical error persists, keep a screenshot of the message and contact Zopa and, where necessary, Lloyds. For an ISA-transfer delay or complaint, GOV.UK says you can complain to the provider and, if the response is unsatisfactory, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be available.
Do not withdraw an old ISA just to solve a linking problem
The most expensive mistake is often the simplest: withdrawing an old ISA into your current account because the new provider's link is failing. That can change how the money interacts with your ISA allowance. Solve the bank-linking problem separately from the tax-wrapper transfer.
Worked example
Illustrative transfer: suppose you have £15,000 in a Cash ISA with another provider and want to transfer it to Zopa. You use the ISA transfer process rather than withdrawing the £15,000 to your bank account.
- Amount transferred: £15,000.
- Zopa's current minimum transfer-in requirement: £500.
- £15,000 − £500 = £14,500 above that minimum.
The £15,000 remains ISA money during the formal transfer process; it is not a new £15,000 subscription merely because the provider changes. By contrast, pulling the £15,000 out to a current account first can change the tax treatment and allowance position. The exact transfer timing depends on the providers and the route used.
The £15,000 transfer in this illustration is invented, not a statement about any account balance or Zopa rate. Before moving an existing ISA, check the outgoing provider's terms, the receiving provider's transfer process and whether the ISA is fixed-term or subject to an exit charge.
Why is my Lloyds account not connecting to Zopa?#
Lloyds is currently listed by Zopa as a supported linked bank, so the problem may be the connection session, authentication or account eligibility rather than the bank being unsupported. Retry through the Zopa app and check the exact error message.
Can I use a Lloyds account to fund a Zopa Cash ISA?#
Yes, Zopa’s current supported-bank list includes Lloyds. You can use a linked account for payments once it has been verified, and Zopa also provides a manual bank-transfer route for Cash ISA funding. Keep the transfer paperwork, because withdrawing ISA money first can create avoidable tax-wrapper problems.
Can I transfer my Cash ISA to Zopa without using the bank link?#
Yes. An ISA transfer is a separate process from linking your current account. Zopa says you can request an ISA transfer through the app, and GOV.UK recommends using the provider-to-provider transfer process to preserve the ISA tax wrapper. Keep the transfer paperwork, because withdrawing ISA money first can create avoidable tax-wrapper problems.
How long does a Cash ISA transfer to Zopa take?#
Zopa says its transfer-in process can take up to 15 business days, while GOV.UK says cash ISA-to-cash ISA transfers should normally take no longer than 15 working days. Fixed-term products or unusual transfer circumstances can have different conditions. Keep the transfer paperwork, because withdrawing ISA money first can create avoidable tax-wrapper problems.
How much can I transfer into a Zopa Cash ISA?#
Zopa currently says the minimum transfer-in amount is £500. An ISA transfer is different from paying new money into an ISA, so the amount you transfer from an existing ISA does not simply become a new annual subscription. Keep the transfer paperwork, because withdrawing ISA money first can create avoidable tax-wrapper problems.
What should I do instead of withdrawing my old ISA?#
Use the formal ISA transfer process. Withdrawing the money to your current account can break the clean transfer of the tax wrapper and may affect how much you can save tax-free during the tax year. Ask the new provider to initiate the transfer.
