How to convert time to decimal

Divide the minutes by 60 (and the seconds by 3,600) and add the result to the hours. 7 hours 45 minutes = 7 + 45 ÷ 60 = 7.75 hours. 8:20 is 8.33 hours, not 8.20. Typing minutes straight in as decimals is one of the most common payroll mistakes: 8.20 hours is only 8 hours 12 minutes.

To go back, multiply the decimal part by 60: 0.6 hours × 60 = 36 minutes, so 6.6 hours is 6:36.
