Algebra solver: solve an equation for x
How to use this scientific calculator online
Type an expression or tap the keys. It follows the standard order of operations: powers first, then × and ÷, then + and −, so 2 + 3 × 4 = 14. Functions: sin, cos, tan and inverses (degrees or radians), sqrt, cbrt, ln, log (base 10), exp, abs, factorial (5! = 120) and percent (50% × 200 = 100). Constants pi and e, scientific E notation (6.02E23) and Ans (the last answer) all work, and you can write 2pi or 3(4 + 5) without a × sign. Trig is exact at standard angles: sin(30) = 0.5 in degree mode.
It's a free calculator that runs entirely in your browser: nothing is sent to a server, and it works offline once loaded. Add the page to your phone's home screen to use it like a calculator app. For everyday sums it works as a basic calculator or simple calculator; for school and engineering it's a full math calculator.
Graphing calculator
Enter up to two functions of x and a range; the graph rescales the y-axis automatically to fit. Try x^2 − 2 with sin(x), or 1/x (the graph breaks at the asymptote instead of drawing a false vertical line).
Algebra calculator: solving equations
The algebra solver finds every real solution in the search range by scanning for sign changes and narrowing each one down (bisection), so it handles polynomials, trig and exponential equations: x^2 = 2 gives x = −1.414213562 and 1.414213562; 2x + 3 = 11 gives x = 4; cos(x) = x gives x ≈ 0.7390851332. Widen the range if you expect larger solutions. For exact quadratic answers and systems of equations, use the quadratic formula calculator. Used as a maths solver it shows numerical answers, not step-by-step algebra.
Common questions
Is this scientific calculator free?
Yes, it's free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser.
Does it use degrees or radians?
Your choice: the Angles setting switches trig between degrees and radians.
What is 2 + 3 × 4?
14, because multiplication comes before addition.
Can it solve equations?
Yes: the algebra solver finds real solutions of an equation in x, like x^2 = 2 (x = −1.414 and 1.414).
Can it draw graphs?
Yes: the graphing calculator plots up to two functions of x.
