Medicare Plan G cost comparison (2026)
What Medicare Plan G covers
Medigap Plan G pays almost all of Original Medicare's gaps, including the Part A hospital deductible ($1,736 per benefit period in 2026), Part A coinsurance, Part B coinsurance and Part B excess charges. You pay only the Part B deductible, $283 in 2026, plus your Plan G premium (medicare.gov).
Plan G vs Plan N vs high-deductible G
- Plan N also leaves the $283 Part B deductible, plus copays of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for ER visits that don't lead to admission, and it doesn't cover excess charges. Premiums are usually lower.
- High-deductible Plan G (in some states): you pay up to $2,950 in 2026 for Medicare-covered costs before it pays, in exchange for a much lower premium.
Premiums vary by insurer, state, age and sex; get quotes and compare total yearly cost with the calculator. The best time to buy is your six-month Medigap open enrollment period starting when you're 65 and enrolled in Part B.
